In our constructive system, things are very simple. Since Newton, we know that the force is equal to the weight multiplied by the acceleration. Thus the earthquake is an acceleration of the earth on horizontal direction which if we multiply with the weight (of the building) will result in a destruction force which affects the building.
We also know that a classical house is many times heavier than a steel house. In conclusion, it’s weight multiplied by the same acceleration value will result in a higher destruction force. If we take into account that the steel structure has elasticity, opposite to the classical one, after a high-intensity earthquake, we can consider the classical house as being demolished, in comparison, the steel house will be just a little “crumpled”.
